The Promising Career of an LPN

A licensed practical nurse (LPN) or also known as licensed vocational nurse (LVN) in Texas and California is delegated to perform tasks such as taking care of the sick, disabled and injured where a registered nurse (RN) or physician supervise every action. Most LPNs are expected to provide basic care and noting vital signs like blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration.

In order to become an LPN, 12 to 18-month training is required and it involves both theoretical subjects and actual clinical experience. The course itself is usually flexible. You can take evening or weekend courses. You can also consider enrolling to one of the available LPN online programs. This flexibility allows you to keep your present job and, at the same time, pursue a more rewarding career as a nurse. There are few prerequisites before you can enroll to an LPN school and this may include your high school diploma. For some schools, experience related to a medical career may be necessary.

The job of an LPN requires that you become a quick thinker with good skills in problem solving and you should also have time management skills such as you can do multi-tasking. You should also be an effective communicator and you remain calm even if under pressure. You can have all these traits right now but, by going to school like enrolling in one of LPN online programs, you can improve these skills and, if you do not possess them yet, you can learn how to have these skills. As a part of the medical team, an LPN is expected to move quickly especially on emergency situations where doctors and members are not yet around to provide assistance.

As an LPN, you have to observe patients and immediately report any undesirable reactions to medications or treatments. Your job includes collecting samples for lab testing, routinely performing laboratory test, note the patient’s fluid and food intake and output and feeding patients. Sometimes, you can be assigned to help in delivering, caring and feeding infants. As you gain experience, time will come that you’re going to be the one to supervise nurse aides and assistant nurses.

Your patients may need care and attention around the clock. Usually, health care providers want LPNs who are willing to be on duty 24 hours per day. Most healthcare institutions like hospitals give nurses different schedules. Sometimes, they offer part-time or daytime or evening jobs so that their needs can be filled in. The flexibility of scheduling is an advantage for LPNs because they have more time to attend on other obligations like family or schooling for continuing their education.

If you feel that you are the right person for this in-demand career in nursing, you are surely going to have a great career path. Trained and licensed LPNs are needed by a lot of hospitals, long-term care institutions, nursing homes and other health care providers around the country. You can begin your training now or you can have more information about LPN online programs by visiting www.onlinelpnprograms.com.

Important Facts about Green Tea

By: Danial Hurley
Posted: Oct 24, 2010

Green tea is a type of tea that originated from China. Recently, it has gained popularity in the western and European countries because of its many health benefits. This tea is basically made using the leaves of Camellia sinensis. The ones used for making green tea are those that have undergone minimal oxidation processing.

These days, there are many types of green teas that have been created in various countries which Camellia sinensis can grow. Because of processing, harvesting time and growing conditions, these types of green teas can differ.

Green tea became popular not because they can grow in different continents, but because of the fact that it provides its drinkers with so many benefits. Due to the many claims about the health benefits of green tea, many studies have been conducted to prove these claims.

According to research, green tea has chemical compounds such as salubrious polyphenols. It is especially rich in epigallocatechin gallate, a type of catechin, which is able to regulate viral load that is essential for those people with human immunodeficiency virus or HIV. Although it is not proven to be a cure for HIV nor can it prevent the said virus, this chemical compound can help reduce plaques of AIDS-related dementia and block gp120.

Apart from this, researches have also confirmed that green tea is also rich in Vitamin C, carotenoids and tocopherols. Minerals such as zinc, manganese, chromium and phytochemical compounds are also present in green teas.

As a result, drinking green tea has been proven to reduce the risk of developing health problems such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and kidney stones. It can also reduce dental cavities and improve the density of the bones and their cognitive function.

Young men can also benefit from green tea because it increases fat oxidation during exercises and improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. Other claims about green tea such as prevention of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease are yet to be proven. But they have shown promising results in the studies conducted.

Meditating and drinking green tea can be very beneficial for a person. Both have wide range of health benefits. To learn more about meditation, visit www.meditation.com.au or www.meditate.com.au.

Effective Role Played By LPN Nursing Schools

There are quite a few nursing programs for becoming a nurse. Some will lead you to the certification while other will make you a licensed practical nurse and a registered nurse. There are main three types of nurses, although they are categorized into 3 groups but still they do take care of the same patient and perform their duties accordingly.

A licensed Practical Nurse plays very important role in healthcare profession. They provide patient basic bedside care; they will check the blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rates, body temperature and also measure the height and weight. Beside this they will also help with the basic patient care, as they will be working with all sort of patient.  A licensed practical nurse also helps the patients with major injuries by assisting them in walking and moving body parts in a particular manner. They will take care of the patients with feeding, surgical dressing and personal hygiene.

A Licensed Practical Nurse also prepares and gives the injections to the patients. Practical nurses will be taking care of the wounds with the ointments, dressing and with alcohol rubs. There are many LPN nursing schools offering the training programs. If you want to become a licensed practical nurse, there is training for 9 to 18 months. You can take the training classes form vocational schools and community colleges. There are many other schools, colleges and universities offering the courses, some hospitals and nursing homes are also providing the training for licensed practical nurse. Some LPN nursing schools claim for the short term course for the licensed nurses, however, it is recommended that the students should check the affiliation of such school with the Board of Nursing before getting enrolled.

There are two parts of the training, first one is theoretical that include some major science subjects and also covers first aid, Pharmacology, anatomy, pediatrics, nutrition, medical-surgical nursing, and obstetrics nursing. These are the subjects student will study in LPN nursing schools. For the clinical practice they will be taken to the wards under the supervision of senior staff or the trainers. A high school diploma will be require for the entry purposes, however there are some programs where the high school diploma will not be necessary as these programs cover the high school syllabus.

After finishing the training you will be sitting in a written paper for the license, nurses cannot practice without having the license as per the law. So the license exam is mandatory for all students and must be conducted right after the training period. To get the license, you have to pass the license exam which is known as “The National Council Licensure Examination” or NCLEX-PN. It is a computer based exam and has different time durations for different States. You can also check with your state’s Board of Nursing.

Once you have passed the license exam, you will be then working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  The basic job requires working 40 hours a week with rotating shifts including morning, evening and nights. On average, LPN usually earns from K to K annually.

Green Tea Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease

Green tea is one of the most well known and well loved beverages that people around the world drink. People enjoy the soothing flavour of tea that is refreshing by itself and versatile that it can be combined with various ingredients to make a variety of drinks as well as food. Its popularity has made entrepreneurs find ways to market it to the public. Chefs and cooks have made different dishes using green tea as an ingredient. Drug manufacturers have come up with green tea extracts in tablet, capsule and powder forms in order to maximize the potential health benefits of the Camella sinensis or tea plant.

Alzheimer’s disease is a medical condition where a person gradually loses his memories. This is due to oxidative stress that leads to deterioration of brain cells. People with high levels of amyloid beta proteins in the brain have high risk of faster progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Green tea contains antioxidants that protect brain cells from early deterioration. Antioxidants prevent oxidative stress and keep the cells in good condition. Aside from this, it has been shown to inhibit the amyloid beta protein’s activity that is toxic to brain cells.

These have been proven by several researches. The polyphenols and catechins in green tea have been extracted and tested on different types of cells that are cultured and the results reveal that cells treated with green tea extracts experience less oxidative stress compared to those that are not treated with it.

There are also studies conducted that shows people who consume green tea regularly have lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease compared to those who do not. It is also noted that people in oriental countries have lower risks of Alzheimer’s disease and part of it is due to drinking of green tea as part of their regular diet.

Although other factors are also considered like genetics and types of food being eaten, environment and lifestyle, there is no denying that green tea has a major role in the prevention of this debilitating disease. Scientists say that more studies are needed to prove the efficacy of green tea as preventive aid for Alzheimer’s disease. Nevertheless there is no denying that green tea is one of the healthiest beverages a person can enjoy.
