LPN Students Come From All Walks Of Life
LPN students know that one of the most exciting career fields today is that of licensed practical nurse, or LPN. Health care has always been a career with a bright future, but that’s even more true today than at any time in the past, and in the near future, the demand for LPNs will really soar. Tens of millions of baby boomers will soon start reaching senior citizen status, and as they do, it will be very hard to supply the number of nurses needed to take care of them. Maybe you’ve been thinking about becoming an LPN, but didn’t think you really fit the profile of a typical nurse. Don’t even worry about that, because f come from all walks of life.
LPN students don’t fit any stereotype. Far from it. You’ll find both men and women, people in their early twenties to late sixties, and all races represented in the ranks of people earning an LPN degree. You’ll have people who only recently got out of high school, to people who graduated from college some 40 years ago. You’ll find people who used to be housewives, medical assistants, fast food workers, accountants, truck drivers, ministers, and every other job you can think of. For some people it will be a first career, while for many others it will a big change after years of doing the same thing.
One of the best things about becoming an LPN is that you can do it in about a year or so, as opposed to four years to become a registered nurse. That means you’ll be out on the job and earning good money, and helping people with their health needs a lot faster than if you went for an RN. Of course, you can always go after an RN degree later. In fact, many LPN students do that very thing – they get their LPN degree either locally or online, they get out and get a high paying job, and once they’re settled in they make arrangements to start moving up to an RN degree.
