A Guide To LPN To RN Programs

If you’re a licensed practical nurse, you have a wealth of medical knowledge, as well as experience.  You know what it takes to help treat patients, comfort them, and nurse them back to health.  You’ve been doing it for a while, and you’re quite good at it.  Well, if you love your job and the way it enables you to do good for others, why not take it to the next level?  Have you ever considered becoming an RN?  Nowadays, with LPN to RN programs, it’s easier than ever before.

Your knowledge and experience are valuable, and put you way ahead of someone with zero experience in the field of nursing.  And nursing schools recognize that, and that’s why they’ve created LPN to RN programs to get you on the fast track to becoming a registered nurse.  Commonly called bridge programs, these course of study can save you years of hard work, intense study, and tens of thousands of dollars when compared to getting your RN certification from scratch.

There are two different ways to go.  One is to get an Associated Degree in Nursing (ADN).  You’ll be full fledged registered nurse, and depending on how you take your course, it won’t take very long.  If you go to a regular brick and mortar school, you should complete your degree in about two years.  But if you choose an online LPN to RN program, you can finish is as little as 18 months.

The other option is a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN).  This will take longer, as it’s more in depth.  You can expect to spend three or so years getting a BSN degree, but you’ll have more options than with an ADN.  Whether the extra time needed to get the BSN is worth it is a personal decision, and you’ll have to weigh all the factors.  But either way you go, these bridge programs make it easy to go from LPN to RN
