LPN Training

Are you thinking of becoming a licensed practical nurse?  It’s an excellent time to become an LPN, as there is a critical shortage of nurses in this country, and with the coming wave of tens of millions of retiring baby boomers, that shortage will only get worse.  And being a nurse isn’t like most jobs; you’ll get a much greater level of satisfaction from helping people stay well than from many run of the mill jobs.  In fact, that’s why many people enter the field.  Of course, the money is good too, and will only get better as demand increases.  So what’s involved in LPN training?

Well, first, you’ll need to have a high school diploma or GED.  There are no exceptions; you can’t “test out” of this requirement.  But if you don’t have that, getting a GED should be no problem for a motivated aspiring LPN.  Then you’ll need to apply for an be accepted into an LPN training program, which usually takes one year to complete.  Once you graduate from the program, you’ll need to take the national certification test for licensed practical nurses, which is the National Council Licensure Examination, or N-CLEX for short.  Once you have your diploma, and you’ve passed the N-CLEX, you’ll be ready to start your nursing career.

There are a lot of LPN training programs all over the country, and you can probably find one that’s pretty close to you.  But another convenient option is getting your LPN diploma online.  Either way you go, you’ll need to plan on spending a year studying, getting your diploma, and then passing the test.  But the rewards are well worth it.  There are few other jobs which you can train for in just a year that provide both the great pay and the satisfaction that comes with helping others like an LPN career.
